WHAT TYPE OF MEETING ARE YOU LOOKING FOR TODAY?
Who We Are & WHAT WE AIM TO DO
A BIT ABOUT THIS DUAL DIAGNOSIS WEBSITE AND THE DUAL DIAGNOSIS MEETINGS IN THIS SITE'S DIRECTORY:
A letter from the person who set this website up:
My name’s Jon and I’m here to help you to:
- Find specific ‘Dual Diagnosis’ 12 Step Recovery Meetings
- Find mental health-friendly meetings (eventually, we hope, from all of the main 12 Step Fellowships)
- Help people to connect with other people in recovery who have concurrent mental health issues or some other form of hidden disability
The purpose of this site is to help sign-post safe places where people can discover the tangible benefits of recovery without feeling any judgement about any additional emotional or psychiatric illnesses they may have or any medication that they may have to take as part of their recovery.
You won’t have to hunt around the internet for tutorials on how to use the various platforms that online recovery meetings use as I aim to put as much of it as I can on here and if it’s not on here, I’ll link to it.
We will do our best to stay within the spirit of 12 Step Recovery and Traditions but unfortunately, mental health is still sometimes a controversial issue to some people in the fellowships and some meetings. Much as we would like to create a website that has cross-fellowship support and isn’t controversial, we accept that this is no small task.
Dual Diagnosis-Friendly Meetings & Groups:
If your 12 Step Fellowship meeting or group, considers itself to be a safe place for those who have co-occurring mental health conditions or some form of hidden disability, then please feel free to submit your 12 Step meeting to our directory using the ‘Submit a Meeting’ link at the top of this page.
Your submission to this site’s directory is not an endorsement of this website and does not mean that your meeting is giving an opinion on outside issues but merely gives your meeting the ability to provide a safe place for those who suffer with concurrent mental health problems (some of whom may have to take medication).
A ‘hidden disability statement’ isn’t essential but if you’d like to let visitors to your meeting know that your meeting is hidden disability-friendly then here’s an example of what one meeting added to its meeting script:
“Also a quick reminder that not all disabilities are visible and to show respect to all who attend tonight.” (*1)
If anyone goes to any of the meetings in our directory and feel that a meeting listed in our directory goes against the spirit of ‘being a safe place for those with co-occurring mental illness issues or hidden disabilities’, we ask that you get in touch with us to let us know about any issue you’ve had.
We would like to state categorically that we are not officially connected with, affiliated to, or linked with, any particular 12 Step fellowship or meeting. This site’s primary purpose is to carry the message of recovery to those who, like us, ‘suffer from grave emotional and mental disorders’ or have some form of ‘Illness in Recovery’ as well as having some form of addiction issue.
I hope you find this resource useful. Let me know if there’s anything that you think is missing and use the contact form here to tell me about it, and I’ll do my best to add it…
TYPES OF DUAL DIAGNOSIS MEETINGS IN THIS SITE'S DIRECTORY
Our directory contains as many of the Dual Diagnosis Anonymous meetings that we could find including all of the online Dual Diagnosis Anonymous meetings in both the UK & USA. We endeavour to keep this directory up-to-date but if you’re having problems with accessing a particular DDA meeting check out the main DDA INC website or the DDA UK website for more current info.
We thought we’d add any dual diagnosis-friendly meetings to our directory to help people find safe meetings and we hope all Fellowships will be represented in it soon. So, feel free to submit your online meeting if it fulfills the criteria of being a safe place for those who have a concurrent mental health problem &/or have to take medication(s) as part of their addiction or alcoholism recoveries.
— Dual Recovery Anonymous Meetings
Dual Recovery Anonymous is a 12-Step programme and fellowship for those who have a mental health problem and a concurrent addiction issue. Dual Recovery Anonymous used to be more prominent in the UK than it is at the moment. Please submit any Dual Recovery Anonymous meetings that you come across to our website so that we can increase the visibility of DRA on this website & directory.
Alcoholics Anonymous doesn’t allow dual diagnosis meetings in any of its directories so we thought we’d add any dual diagnosis AA meetings in the UK & USA that we come across to this site’s directory. We hope that visitors to this site will find it useful.
— Dual Diagnosis Cocaine Anonymous Meetings
Cocaine Anonymous is a very solution focussed recovery programme that works from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and although we don’t currently know of any dual diagnosis CA meetings, we hope this will change with time.
— Dual Diagnosis Narcotics Anonymous Meetings
Narcotics Anonymous is a bit more forward-thinking and open minded about dual diagnosis meetings but in our efforts to create a comprehensive dual diagnosis meetings directory, we thought we’d add any NA meetings we come across too.
