Lesbian and gay peoples lived experience of completing a full Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) programme: A research study

What does it involve?  

The study would involve attending an online interview by Zoom or telephone, where you will be asked about your experiences of the above areas. The interview appointment will take up to 2 hours. You will be reimbursed for your time.  

You may be eligible to take part if: 

  • Self-identify as gay or lesbian 
  • Aged between 18-50 
  • Able to speak English fluently  
  • Have a UK based GP 
  • Has completed a full course of standard adult or adolescent DBT (including the four modalities; individual therapy, group skills training, peer consultation team meetings and intersession contact between therapist and patient) within the last 2 years. 
  • Willing to be audio-recorded or audio-recorded and video recorded

The main points could be: 

  • We are looking to speak to lesbian and gay adults who have experienced Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) within the past two years  
  • We would like to speak to people aged 18-50, who have a UK based GP and would like to share their experiences 
  • We will ask questions around your life before DBT, your experience of DBT as a lesbian or gay person and any recommendations you would make to make DBT a more affirmative therapy for lesbian and gay people 
  • The interview appointment will last around an hour to an hour and a half, this is done via Zoom (but no pressure to have your camera on)
  • You will be reimbursed £25 in Amazon vouchers for your time 
  • We hope to understand lesbian and gay adults experience of DBT in a hope to improve the therapy in general
