MINT TRIP:
This used to be the official MINT newsletter, but it is no longer being published. It still has a load of interesting content about the practice of motivational interviewing, so we decided to add it to this directory.
Founding and Early Years of the MI Newsletter
From 1994 to 1999, under the leadership of founding editor David Rosengren, the Motivational Interviewing Newsletter for Trainers was the key communication channel for the International Association of Motivational Interviewing Trainers.
Transition to MINT and MINUET
In 1999, this organisation was renamed the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), and a members-only listserv was created. Concurrently, the newsletter was rebranded as the Motivational Interviewing Newsletter: Updates, Education and Training (MINUET).
Editorial Evolution and Expansion
Denise Ernst succeeded as editor, followed by Ralf Demmel in 2002 and Allan Zuckoff in 2004. During these years, MINUET remained a vital source for sharing conceptual articles, global updates, and concise summaries of discussions from the listserv.
The Birth of MINT Bulletin
In 2005, it evolved into the MINT Bulletin, reflecting its transition from a newsletter to a resource offering new ideas, training experiences, current research trends, and ongoing developments in MI practice, all presented in a manner encouraging open dialogue and constructive critique.
Towards a New Journal
By 2009, it was clear that the publication was poised for further advancement. A MINT members’ working group was formed to envision the future of the Bulletin. This group eventually became the editorial board of a new journal, aiming to broaden its authorship beyond MINT members to all interested contributors, while preserving an atmosphere of openness, informality, and mutual respect within the global MI community and for the counselling approach that unites us.
