About the Camden & Islington Recovery College:
Who we are
The Recovery College team co-produce mental health and wellbeing training courses. We believe recovery is a journey, not a destination and that we are all students of life.
Our tutors have professional and lived experience of mental and physical health challenges. They include staff peer and professional tutors as well as psychologists, occupational therapists, nurses and social workers from Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust, as well as experts from the Third Sector, including Mind in Camden, and Castlehaven.
The Recovery College is a non-judgmental place where people can be truly authentic through sharing their stories and experience of their journey to wellbeing. We believe that everyone on our courses, tutors and students, bring their own expertise.
What we do
We run co-produced recovery-focused courses in four broad areas: Recovery Journey, Mental Health Conditions, Wellbeing, and Self-development. Our courses promote hope that recovery is possible. They are lively, aspirational and interactive. We aim to empower people in practical ways by teaching them self-care tools to improve their wellbeing.
How we work
We work using the model of co-production, where professionals from our Trust and community work together with peer tutors, who have lived and professional experience, to co-produce recovery-focused courses. Co-production continues with our students who have their own knowledge, skills and experience to share in courses.
Who is the service for
Everyone aged 18+ who lives or works in Camden or Islington can access our free courses. Staff and service users are welcome, as are friends, family, other professionals and members of the public. No referral is needed. We also provide our expertise outside London, existing customers include Changing Lives (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and Berlin Recovery College.
