About the Help for Heroes Recovery College:
About Us
While it takes strength to serve in the Armed Forces, it takes a different kind of strength to live life beyond injury. We believe anyone affected by their military service deserves to live a secure and healthy life with purpose. Together, we can help our wounded veterans overcome their daily battles and thrive.
Recovery is about finding ways to live a secure, healthy and fulfilled life, despite the challenges of an ongoing injury or illness.
When a military career comes to an end for medical reasons, the future can seem overwhelming. We’re here to help you take steps in your recovery journey that put you in control of your future.
Our Recovery College is the first to be designed specifically for wounded veterans and your families, with courses that will help you identify your ambitions and gain the confidence, knowledge and understanding necessary to achieve them.
What We Do
Our Recovery College is based on three principles: HOPE, CONTROL and OPPORTUNITY.
Our courses are designed to enable you to:
- Develop the knowledge that will help you to own your recovery journey
- Work towards achieving your goals
- Learn how to meet your needs
- Discover your strengths and how to use them to move your life forward in a positive way.
How We Do It
Our courses are co-produced by recovery staff, together with veterans who have been through or who are going through the recovery process. We understand that the challenges you may face when leaving the military because of illness or injury can be complex. Those who have already embarked on a recovery journey often have the best insight into what will help you.
We look forward to the day when we can run our courses face-to-face but due to Covid-19 restrictions, this isn’t possible yet. In the meantime, we have created ten self-help guides which you can access online to begin your Recovery College journey with us.
