About the Recovery College NHFT:

Recovery College NHFT:

Recovery College NHFT offers a range of educational courses and one-off workshops designed to improve health by increasing your knowledge and skills and promote self-management. The courses are designed to support you to take control and become an expert in your own wellbeing and recovery and get on with your life despite health challenges.

The college offers courses related to mental health, neurodevelopmental conditions, and physical health.

All our courses are co-designed and co-delivered by people with real-life experience, who work in conjunction with health professionals, education providers, and trainers to share what works for them.

Courses range from half a day workshops to 12 weeks and are for our current service users, or for those who have accessed our service in the last twelve months or for staff.

What Recovery Means to Us:

Recovery is something people define and experience for themselves. NHFT cannot make someone recover although it can support the process and the Recovery College, Recovery Services, and Medical services strive to do that.

“Recovery is about building a meaningful and satisfying life, as defined by the person themselves, whether or not there are ongoing or recurring symptoms or problems” (Shepherd, Boardman, and Slade, 2008, ‘Making Recovery a Reality’, SCMH)

“Recovery is a personal journey of discovery (Repper and Perkins, 2012). It involves making sense of, and finding meaning in, what has happened; becoming an expert in your self-care; building a new sense of self and purpose in life; discovering your own resourcefulness and possibilities and using these, and the resources available to you,  to pursue your aspirations and goals” (Perkins et al. 2012).
