Shades Of Recovery:
A Culturally Inspired Approach To Addiction Treatment And Recovery

Shades of recovery tells a story of people from diverse ethnic backgrounds battling with addiction and their search for recovery. The knowledge of lived realities, intersecting and interconnecting with cultural issues are vital in supporting people from diverse ethnic backgrounds effectively. Cultural context is critical in understanding who people are in terms of their worldview.
There are three themes which run through this book: three themes that are central to everything that BAC IN does. BAC-IN is a specialist grassroots service founded in 2003, inspired by individuals in recovery, and built upon a foundation of knowledge gained by those with first-hand experience of addiction. The three themes relate to – the challenges faced by our organisation, the struggles faced by our communities and the trials of our personal journey to recovery. But we strive, together, with a unified impulse, making recovery possible for those who are often marginalised, seldom engaged and undeserved in society.
